今年の夏は作曲家グリーグの家トロールハウゲンで仕事をしています。以前にも書きましたが、グリーグはノルウェーの民謡のメロディーを自身の作品に使っています。晩年の作品Op.72ではKnut Dahleのレパートリーがピアノ曲になりました。

私はハーディングフェーレを始める前からグリーグのOp.72について調べていました。これまで何度もそこからのレパートリーを演奏する機会があったにも関わらず、私は案外、グリーグのことを知りませんでした。少しづつ、グリーグと民俗音楽家との関わり、どんなレパートリーを使ったのか、また、その素材となっている曲の”現在”などを調べ始めるととても面白く、まだまだ興味はつきません。それに加えて、グリーグのハーモニーの付け方は、全く古臭くなく洒落ていて、改めてグリーグを聞き直し、見直す機会となりました。

というわけで、何年も経ってからまたグリーグに立ち返っています。5月から9月の毎日、トロールハウゲンではピアノコンサートを行なっています。昨日のピアニストは、グリーグのライフワークとも言える叙情小品集の最初の作品アリエッタ(op.12）と最後の作品、余韻(op.71)を取り上げ「まるで円を描くように仕上げた」と紹介しました。（グリーグは34年かけて、10集66曲に及ぶピアノ小曲集「叙情小品集」を発表した）34年の年月を経て、最初と最後に同じモチーフを扱いながら、別の趣の２曲を作曲したのです。私もまた円を描くように、以前と同じ作品を別の知識と観点で見直して行きたいと思います。

明日はトロールハウゲンのスペシャルセッション「My Favorite」でクヌート・ダーレKnut Dahleについて語ります。面白いのは、急ぎ足の観光客もいれば、のんびりと時間を過ごして行かれる人もいることです。話好きの各国語ガイドが夏のシーズン中は常時待機しています。ベルゲンにお越しの際には、ぜひ、トロールハウゲンに足を伸ばしてください。

I’m working at Troldhaugen, the home for Edvard and Nina Grieg, in this summer. I have been interested in Grieg’s op.72 slåtter, even before I started playing the hardingfele by myself. But I think, I was not so keen to learn about Edvard Grieg’s life and music style. In this season I learn a lot about his life and music. Concerning to folk music, I have read about the relationship between the folk musicians and Grieg, how and which tunes he used and how people play these folk tunes today. This is very interesting theme and I am never (so far) tired of researching about it.
